Job Description

Summary

System Engineers design, implement, and document all aspects of the company's technology solution hardware, storage and compute infrastructure. This position analyzes technical requirements and software platform needs that will provide system capabilities required for projected workloads. The System Engineer III plans layout and installation of new systems and modifications of existing systems. The System Engineer III normally is assigned work that is complex in nature.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs, implements, and documents server and platform solutions.
  • In line with the industry's best practices, assists with the architecture and maintenance of MedImpact's systems to ensure monthly corporate uptime metrics.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to management on technology and services.
  • Provides input for documentation on new or existing programs.
  • Assists with monthly capacity planning and utilizes the industry's best practices to administer and secure the computer environment.
  • Restores servers in cases of data loss.
  • Maintains current knowledge and technical capability with the industry's best practices.
  • Attends continuing education and workshops to keep abreast of latest technologies.

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written). One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

BS/BA and 6+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 2 years of SME in respective areas

Computer Skills

  • Linux and/or Windows OS, VMware management (expert level)
  • General monitoring systems and Veritas Netbackup experience (good understanding)
  • Enterprise storage management (intermediate level)
  • Scripting and automation experience
  • Work planning and tracking through ticketing platforms such as Jira.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to integrate technology and apply it to solve the company's technical challenges.
  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage networks.
  • In-depth performance analysis and capacity planning of large scale and complex computer infrastructures.
  • Good understanding of network routing protocols and network switching architectures.
  • Must be able to research solutions and make recommendations to management
  • Facilitate meetings, work on a team as well as independently
  • Work beyond standard business hours as required by deliverables.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Location

This position works on-site at the San Diego Headquarters or other company location (or from a remote location with management approval based on business requirements). Must provide adequate support to internal clients; be available for regular interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as be available to facilitate effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring the incumbent to work the hours required to fully accomplish job responsibilities and reasonably meet deadlines for work deliverables. The individual must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, at weekends or on holidays as required. Work hours may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position requires domestic travel of up to 5% of the time.
