Information Technology Services Specialist III- COM DO: Student Affairs

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Educational Technology, this position is responsible for support of the educational technology resources required by educators and clerkship directors throughout the preclinical and clinical curriculum.

Job Description Summary:

  • Troubleshoots and maintains an effective Learning Management System site that is consistent with the standards set by the Director of Educational Technology.
  • Supports planning for identifying, evaluating and implementing new education/information technology resources.
  • Supports faculty in the effective and appropriate use of technology for teaching and learning, both online and in the classroom to meet student learning outcomes and objectives. Supports the creation, recording, uploading and archiving of educational content for the 4 year program.
  • Technical Supports testing for all exams used in years 1-4, Trouble-shooting with external exam vendor service personnel and MUSC IT staff as needed.
  • Recommends computer hardware and software applications acquisitions for the purpose of assisting with the design and implementation of the COM Educational technology plan.
  • Manages faculty media equipment and academic technology station(s) and supports faculty use of media in COM special events.
  • Technical Support for Center for Clinical Assessment and Teaching.

Classroom and Study Lounges Technical Support 35%:

  • Supports technology systems and services in the classrooms and study lounges for the College of Medicine in years 1-4.
  • Supports classroom technology systems, technical operations, web-based user documentation and resources.
  • Assist with video conferencing for all courses in years 1-4.

Maintenance of All UME Curriculum, Admissions, and Student Affairs Webpages in the College of Medicine Using the Content Management System 20%:

  • Ensures that all contents of the website comply with University standards.
  • Improves design to insure optimal navigation and access to important information
  • Updates information in a timely way in accordance with program accreditation standards and ensure that links to all education resources are functional.

Regional Campus 10%:

  • Establishes protocols and ensure reliable connection to the regional campus students, faculty and staff to include video conference for educational activities, student support required webinars (e.g., financial literacy and debt management, career advising and counseling), program oversight and curriculum governance meetings, and development activities for the regional campus faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, Information technology, or a related field
  • Work experience in course learning management systems, integrating technology into teaching in an educational setting, classroom technology support or other related work experience.
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience using and evaluating multiple Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience with use and evaluation of online testing software.
  • Experience optimizing video and graphics to maintain quality while enhancing downloading/streaming
  • Experience with web conferencing
  • Experience with student response systems (e.g., clickers)
  • Experience with pen-based technologies (e.g., tablet PCs, Sympodium)
  • Knowledge of Macs & PCs

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience using multimedia applications
  • Experience assisting individuals in the planning and production of graphics, animation, audio and video materials
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to users with a variety of technical backgrounds

Additional Job Description:

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and four years experience in office automation systems, data communications system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing, or processing of information in a data processing environment or related systems. A degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
