Software Engineering & Product Intern (Summer 2026)

Location: Brooklyn, NY Schedule: Full-Time Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

About MedElite

Since 2011, MedElite has been dedicated to improving the standard of care in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities nationwide. We implement a data-driven, "treat in place" model that enhances resident health outcomes while saving valuable time and resources for our partner organizations. By managing a network of advanced practice providers and specialty clinicians, we deliver high-quality, proactive care directly to the bedside. Our passion for positively impacting the lives of residents, administrators, and healthcare professionals drives our commitment to continuously innovate and redefine senior care across the country.

The Role: Real-World Product Engineering

This is a hands-on internship designed for a Master's or high-performing Undergraduate student. You will work directly with the Head of Product on the development of our current platform. You will move beyond theory and gain experience in a live-adjacent environment, learning how a high-growth medical tech product is built, documented, and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Backend & Data Infrastructure: Work directly with Azure-hosted SQL databases, managing connection strings, authentication models, and connection pooling.
  • System Navigation: Navigate and manage backend systems (starting in our test environment) to ensure robust connectivity and data integrity.
  • Workflow Integration: Plug into our agile development cycle using Jira and Confluence. You will track work, document technical processes, and manage hand-offs.
  • Infrastructure Support: Assist in building and maintaining APIs (REST/JSON) and supporting the broader backend architecture.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • SQL Fundamentals: Strong foundational experience with SQL querying and schema navigation.
  • Cloud Awareness: Exposure to Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP. You should understand the basics of cloud-hosted infrastructure and authentication.
  • Technical Tools: Familiarity with at least one backend language (Python, C#, or Java).
  • Experience with Git (branching, pull requests, and code reviews).
  • Comfort working in a Linux shell or Windows PowerShell.
  • Professionalism: A quick learner who understands how work is tracked and documented in a structured dev environment.

Why Intern at MedElite?

  • Direct Mentorship: Daily collaboration and 1-on-1 guidance from the Head of Product.
  • Mission-Driven Work: See your code impact doctors and patients across 15+ medical specialties.
  • NYC Presence: Work from our Brooklyn office in a fast-paced, collaborative professional environment.

Why Work With Us?

  • Make a meaningful impact in the nursing home community
  • Work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment
  • Enjoy work-life balance
