Library Associate for Teen Services includes all programming, resources and services for youth ages 12 to 18. Staff members plan and implement programming, conduct outreach, and provide teens with the resources they need to succeed.
The Library Associate supports the branch team in creating a welcoming and engaging environment for teens. The Library Associate leads age-appropriate programs for pre-teens and teens, including school-age programs and supervising teen volunteers. This position represents the Library in the community and facilitates outreach to area schools and partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Children's Services and Teen Services. Strong programming, outreach, and partnership-building experience are highly desirable. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player and effective individual contributor with supervisory skills and the ability to inspire excellence in a diverse staff. Independent judgment and the ability to work with limited supervision are essential.
The University City Regional Library is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology and computer assistance, research and readers' advisory from a service desk. Additional duties include staffing a busy service desk for all ages, providing technology and research assistance, and offering readers' advisory. The Library Associate may serve as a manager-on-duty and may handle branch operations, including opening/closing and cash procedures. A rotating schedule with evenings and weekends is required. Strong technology and computer skills are preferred.
Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences
Prepare program reports
Provide research assistance to customers
Utilize integrated library systems software
Assist with volunteer management
Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
Maintain library's collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
Promote and markets library's programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
Assist customers at several service points
Perform circulation activities
Create and maintain attractive displays
Provide electronic resource assistance and basic computer skills training for teens
Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Education/Experience Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes.
Experience working with ages 12-18
Knowledge of Young Adult literature and developmental stages of teens
At least three years of library or customer service experience
Knowledge of Alpha-numeric sorting systems
Various library systems
