Indirect Tax Manager – Sales and Use Tax Audits
The Indirect Tax Team is responsible for the design, implementation, and defense of Indirect Tax strategies and positions. The Indirect Tax Manager – Sales and Use Tax Audits will support domestic non-income tax audits, including sales and use tax, business license tax, gross receipts tax, and other indirect taxes. This role provides technical support to Indirect Tax colleagues and operational personnel, assists with process improvements, and helps mitigate risk. The Manager will report to the Director of Indirect Tax – Sales and Use Tax Audits and collaborates with team members and business units across the organization.
This position is based in Irving, Texas. Remote work flexibility may be available.
Position Responsibilities
- Support and manage state & local tax audits by evaluating information requests and assisting in the development of strategies to defend tax filing positions, supporting leadership.
- Represent the company in communications with tax authorities, under guidance from senior leadership.
- Assist in managing audit resolutions, including settlements, appeals, and protests.
- Collaborate with internal and external personnel on audit responsibilities related to mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions.
- Prepare and manage indirect tax audit accruals and coordinate with FP&A and accounting teams on related entries.
- Respond to business queries related to non-income tax matters and foster productive relationships across departments.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance audit and compliance functions.
- Conduct tax research and analysis, and document conclusions in collaboration with senior tax professionals.
- Summarize audit results, communicate and educate findings to Indirect Tax colleagues and participate in design and implementation of compliance improvements.
- Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience in indirect tax.
Critical Skills & Abilities
- Experience managing sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, and business license tax audits.
- Experience in a multi-corporate, multi-state environment; distribution or healthcare industry preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience supervising or mentoring tax professionals.
- Strong technical background in indirect tax audit techniques and resolution.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex tax topics to non-tax audiences.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines with accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated and team-oriented with strong presentation skills.
Additional Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with compliance activities, data analysis, and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP and Vertex preferred.
- Familiarity with exemption certificate management systems and tax research tools (CCH, RIA, TTR).

Our Base Pay Range for this position $105,800 - $176,400
