CAD/CAM Engineer

As a CAD/CAM Engineer at our manufacturing start-up, you will play a key role in bridging design and production through advanced computer-aided technologies. You'll be responsible for developing and optimizing toolpaths, ensuring manufacturability of complex components, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to an innovative start-up in a critical industry in Canada. The ideal candidate brings strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software, exceptional attention to detail, robust and practical understanding of modern manufacturing processes, and prior experience in a highly automated, technology-driven woodworking environment.
What You'll Do
- Create and maintain CAD/CAM program libraries for fully automated production lines.
- Develop and maintain necessary programs for cutting, drilling, edge banding, and sorting equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot shop floor issues to improve productivity in a highly automated production environment.
- Interpret and modify 3D CAD models and technical drawings using Homag iX.
- Select appropriate tools, cutting paths, speed rate, and feed rate based on material, machine capabilities, and job requirements.
- Collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and process improvements.
- Deliver on cost optimization initiatives focused on Design to Manufacture approach.
- Provide cabinetry construction insights to improve manufacturability and user experience.
- Perform simulation and verification of toolpaths to ensure accuracy and prevent collisions or machining errors.
- Create and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, and documentation for machining operations.
- Provide support to CNC machine operators during job setup, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
- Assist in the design and development of manufacturing processes for new product introductions (NPI).
- Monitor and continuously improve manufacturing performance (cycle times, scrap rates, etc.).
- Maintain CAD/CAM file management system and adhere to revision control protocols.
- Support integration of MES with Point of Sale (PoS), ERP, and additional software suites.
- Support capability building initiatives with input on equipment utilization.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Woodworking or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a CAD/CAM Engineer or similar role.
- Experience in Cabinetry OR Woodworking Industry is a must.
- Solid understanding of woodworking machining processes and automation.
- Proven track record of process optimization through tooling and routing.

- Prior experience with Homag equipment.
- CAD/CAM-related designations/certifications.
