Principal Electrical Engineer
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing new products and sustaining existing production contracts. This challenging position requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on experience in developing and sustaining products. You will be responsible for ensuring our electronics and software products deliver cutting-edge performance, evaluating make-vs-buy decisions, and continuously improving our design, analysis, and project planning processes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and shape the company's future products and capabilities. Specific job duties shall include but not be limited to:
- Electrical engineering
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, including guiding, reviewing, and approving their design work.
- Establish technical objectives, milestones, project timelines, and budgets.
- Building and sustaining a CMMI® capability level 3 (or equivalent) software development organization.
- Lead the design of circuits, firmware, and software for MCU, FPGA, DSP, and CPU devices for new and existing products.
- Development of low power and low noise circuits, electromechanical devices and assemblies.
- Development of sensor modules including real time processing of sensor data.
- Design and development of robotic systems.
- Design and development of power amplifiers.
- Guide the team in the use of electronic CAD tools (Altium, Eagle etc.).
- Guide the team in state of the art utilization of version control tools (e.g. Github, JIRA).
- System design using standard interfaces such as Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB, etc.
- C++ or Rust or C programming.
- Implementing computer vision, AI, and control system algorithms.
- Support make vs buy decisions.
- Work with contract manufacturers to develop and execute development as well as production and testing.
Cross functional:
- Working across engineering departments to deliver on project goals.
- Working knowledge of product development methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk management, Change Management, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Work with the quality team to implement and oversee software and electronics related testing for product quality control.
- Work with senior management to develop technology road maps, project plans, and strategies.
Requirements and Education:
Required qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in electrical engineering, software engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of experience with excellent working knowledge of microprocessor-based, mixed signal circuit design.
- 4+ years of relevant experience building complex electromechanical hardware/software systems.
- 4+ years of relevant experience developing API's for low level devices.
- 3+ years experience in engineering, within the aerospace/defense, automotive, or medical device fields.
- Working knowledge of product development methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk management, Change Management, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Proficient with Microsoft suite.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications:
- MS or higher in related field.
- Exposure to ISO 9001/AS 9100 quality systems.
- Experience with high mix low volume manufacturing and suppliers.
- Experience with electromechanical hardware.
- Experience with Python / Matlab and experimental data collection.
