Physician Assistant, Emergency Medicine

The assessment and management of patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints. Working in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, Nurse Practitioners, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students. Performing detailed histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing and executing a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Engaging in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care. Performing emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks). Developing discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Working to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals. Communicating with patients and family in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instructing and counseling patients regarding physical and mental health issues. Assisting in the education of medical and physician assistant students rotating in the department. Working 34.5 hours per week. Shifts are rotating Monday through Sunday and include days/evenings/overnights/weekends/holidays/on-call (Eligible for full-time benefits.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Experience: ED and/or pediatric PA experience preferred
  • Licensure/Certifications: A Current Massachusetts PA License
