Computer Network Support Specialist

This position is responsible for providing computer network support to operational computer networks.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assemble and configure network components and associated services.
  • Set up and maintain basic network operation, including assembly of network hardware, and assistance to the network administrator.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as required.
  • Install, upgrade, and configure email, network printing, directory structure, rights, security, software, and file services.
  • Provide user with computer and network technical support.
  • Respond to needs and questions of users concerning their access of network resources.
  • Establish network users, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed.
  • Manage and maintain SonicWALL firewall (or subsequent firewall technologies) and its associated features: VPN, Guest internet access, Wireless Access Points, Gateway Anti-Virus/Anti-SPAM and any other measures, devices, or applications to ensure network security and protection from external network threats.
  • Act as back up support for Network System Analyst.
  • Share responsibility for Windows network security systems both on premise and cloud based.
  • Provide support to other ZDUSA locations in respect to VPN and SAP connectivity.
  • Monitor and recommend new and/or upgraded technologies in respect to maintaining cybersecurity threat protection.
  • Perform other duties as required or requested.

Supervisory responsibilities include:

  • None

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer networking or related technologies from a four-year college or technical school; or 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Possess knowledge of SonicWALL (firewalls) and routing/switching, internet software such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and JavaScript, Inventory software, barcode scanning or manufacturing software, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Strong overall knowledge of Microsoft’s full software family, both on-premise and/or cloud based.
  • Knowledge of principles, operations, and capabilities of high-speed communications network hardware, software and protocols; maintenance, monitoring and control of communications system controls.
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and general public.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Work environment consists of office setting and occasionally a manufacturing setting that may be exposed to noise, varying temperatures, smells, and chemicals.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts up to 1/3 of the time.
  • May work in high precarious places up to 1/3 of the time.
  • May be exposed to varying noise levels from quiet to very loud about 1/3 of the time each.
