Digital Output & Print Support Technician

The Digital Output & Print Support Technician plays a vital role in supporting "The Lab", MassArt's interdisciplinary hub for output, printing, scanning, and academic technology services. This position ensures the smooth operation of printing and scanning services, maintains the open lab computer spaces and provides training, printing and delivery of signage and other printed material. The technician also manages student employees, oversees inventory, and serves as a secondary administrator for the PaperCut print management system.

Supervision Exercised: Student employees and contractors
Bargaining Unit: This position is governed by the APA collective bargaining agreement.
Hours: 37.5
Salary Range: $65,000-$69,000, commensurate with experience
Duties and Responsibilities
Print & Output Services
- Operate and maintain a variety of printing and scanning equipment, including large-format and specialty printers.
- Provide technical support for printing and scanning workflows across disciplines.
Training, Instruction and Analysis
- Offer training sessions and develop and maintain user guides, documentation, and tutorials.
- Assist in preparing reports on Lab operations and usage statistics.
Student Employee Management
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student employees working in The Lab.
- Approve time sheets and manage issues and expectations with payroll.
Inventory & Supplies
- Track and manage inventory of printing supplies, paper, ink, and other consumables.
- Coordinate ordering and restocking to ensure uninterrupted service.
PaperCut Administration
- Act as a secondary administrator for the PaperCut print management system.
- Troubleshoot issues and escalate to primary administrator or vendor as needed.
Requirements
Required:
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- 2 years of experience in print services, academic technology, or IT support.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience managing or mentoring student workers or part-time staff.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, large-format printing, and color management.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Mac and Windows operating systems in a lab environment.
- Experience in a higher education or creative/arts-focused environment.
Work Environment:
- The shift for this position may be staggered to support the academic needs of The Lab space, or the training needs of student employees, which may include working outside of normal business hours, weekends, or holidays.
- Fast-paced, collaborative, and service-oriented.
- May be contacted outside of scheduled work hours from student support in the Lab for emergencies or call outs.
- Requires occasional lifting of equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- May involve evening or weekend hours during peak academic periods.
