Job Summary: The Community-Based Services Court Advocate provides critical support and services to victims of domestic violence. This role involves crisis intervention, individual advocacy, and emotional support for clients, as well as collaboration with other advocates, court personnel, and community agencies. The position focuses on identifying high-risk clients and helping them navigate the legal system.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention services and individual advocacy to victims of domestic violence in the Court House, Police Department, or Agency settings.
  • Collaborate with other advocates (SAFEPLAN, WIN, CBS, VWA) to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Offer emotional support and safety planning for participants attending District or Family and Probate Courts.
  • Assist clients with connecting to their Victim Witness Advocate or Assistant District Attorney for questions regarding criminal cases.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key court personnel.
  • Enter and maintain data for funders and ensure timely reporting of client outcomes.
  • Assess clients for high-risk situations, ensuring access to shelter and related services.
  • Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and professional boundaries with clients.
  • Provide consultation to court personnel as needed, including insights into high-risk cases or safety concerns.
  • Maintain written documentation for participant records, ensuring compliance with agency policies.
  • Collect and manage required monthly statistics for program evaluation and reporting.
  • Attend agency meetings, in-service training.
  • Develop and maintain community resource contacts to enhance service delivery for clients.
  • Adhere to all YWCA policies and procedures.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with professionals and team members in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental, with active listening skills to support clients in distress.
  • Strong crisis assessment and intervention abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in computer skills including data entry and documentation.

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, family violence, and related issues such as substance abuse, mental health, crisis intervention, and individual/group counseling.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with community resources and how to connect clients to available services.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
