Reliability Engineering Manager

Reliability Engineering Manager leads corporate reliability initiatives across Grace's global manufacturing network, collaborating closely with local Maintenance & Reliability leadership. This role provides guidance in defining, assessing, designing, training, and implementing continuous improvement programs for reliability. The Manager works with site engineering teams, operations, and corporate leadership to drive results. The position is headquartered in Columbia, MD, with travel required to both domestic and international Grace sites. The Reliability Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and deployment of reliability engineering standards, tools, and methodologies across all manufacturing sites.
  • Analyze asset performance with Meridium APM / GE APM / IBM Maximo data to identify systemic reliability issues and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) utilizing RCA tools like TapRooT, Apollo RCA and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions.
  • Champion predictive and preventive maintenance programs, including condition monitoring technologies (vibration, ultrasound, oil analysis, thermography).
  • Provide reliability input to capital project planning to ensure long-term asset integrity.
  • Collaborate with site teams to develop Asset Care Plans, Failure Mode Effect Analyses (FMEA) using tools like Xfmea, ReliaSoft, and Equipment Criticality initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with corporate KPIs for asset availability and maintenance cost optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to site reliability engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial reliability engineering.
  • 3+ years in a leadership position managing technical professionals.
  • Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or related process industries.
  • Ability to support up to 50% travel, including international assignments.

Physical Requirements and Environment:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, gloves, FR clothing, and full-face respirator.
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards while working in a chemical plant with hazardous materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Reliability.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
  • Experience with SAP PM module for reliability data tracking and analysis, as well as condition monitoring technologies.
  • Familiarity with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and other safety protocols.
