Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Principal Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to join the East Region Dams Team. This position will support a variety of dam safety engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities. This position will report to one of the AECOM offices in the East Region including but not limited to Atlanta, Georgia; Buffalo, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Germantown, Maryland; Franklin, Tennessee; or Tampa, Florida.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Project management of multidisciplinary teams and the engagement of AECOM's operations/finance teams including client management, contract management, planning and execution and financial management of dam engineering projects.
  • Provide senior technical support for projects including seepage and slope stability analyses, filter and drain design, Potential Failure Mode Analyses (participate and/or facilitate), Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessments, site inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of hydraulic structures.
  • Prepare and perform quality reviews of other Engineer's work on deliverables such design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Perform engineering estimates for cost and project schedules.
  • Responsible for quality control and serve as Lead Verifier following AECOM Quality Control policies and procedures.
  • Mentoring and technical development of junior staff, supporting them to achieve technical success.
  • Perform as Capture Manager for new opportunities including business development pre-positioning and the preparation of proposals.
  • Collaborate with technical leads in our Dam Engineering Practice with staff located throughout AECOM.
  • Client facing role with ownership and responsibility for the successful delivery of dam engineering projects and programs including business development for new and existing clients.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with demonstrated coursework in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in at least one state with the ability to successfully apply for reciprocity in additional states.
  • Relevant experience with dams projects, including rehabilitation and/or new design and construction.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in relevant geotechnical engineering software programs such as GeoStudio and gINT.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in Dams Engineering and/or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Project experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Approved Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12 Independent Consultant.
  • Ability to complete the Managing AECOM Projects training and receive the AECOM Project Manager certification.

Additional Information

Relocation is not available for this position. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Occasional travel to project sites, both local and remote. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $150,000.00 - $180,000.00.
