Peer Recovery Specialist

Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc. (BCRI) is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to delivering person-centered behavioral health crisis care. Since 1992, we have provided timely, compassionate, and community-based support to individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges across Maryland.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist to provide supportive, person-focused services for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and substance use challenges. As someone with lived experience, you will work alongside clinicians and community partners to guide individuals through recovery, connect them to vital resources, and empower them to take the next step toward wellness.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, peers, and community partners to support individuals through crisis and recovery.
  • Assist individuals in crisis with developing a crisis plan, linking to care, and accessing recovery tools before the first engagement concludes.
  • Facilitate engagement and help individuals feel welcome, safe, and supported.
  • Support continuity of care by connecting individuals to behavioral health, addiction, peer recovery, and community resources.
  • Build strong partnerships with addiction services, behavioral health providers, community outreach organizations, and peer recovery networks.
  • Document individual interactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Empower individuals to become self-advocates for their recovery and wellness.
  • Apply a strengths-based perspective to all interactions, providing encouragement and hope.
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Adhere to BCRI policies, expectations, and professional competencies.

Qualifications:

  • Personal lived experience with behavioral health and/or substance use recovery.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and advocacy skills.
  • Commitment to a strengths-based, person-centered approach.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and community partners.
  • Organizational and documentation skills to ensure timely reporting.
