Lead Instrument System Engineer

The joint NASA/NOAA Low Earth Observations (LEO) Project is seeking a Lead Instrument System Engineer (ISE) to provide oversight and insight into the design, development, testing, verification, and validation of contractor-built flight instruments for integration onto satellites. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Instrument Manager and Mission System Engineer in managing the instrument supplier on multiple, concurrent instrument builds
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the technical team (Chief Engineer, Instrument System Engineers, discipline SMEs, Science, and Mission Assurance)
  • Interfacing with the Instrument contractor, Satellite Integrator contractor, and Project Management to coordinate efforts, communicate needs, and resolve technical issues
  • Generating, reviewing, and releasing of instrument requirement documents and other project documentation
  • Validating and tracking Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) document review, Giver/Receiver documentation (technical documents exchanged between the Instrument contractor and the Satellite Integrator contractor), and requirement verification
  • Preparing and coordinating with various teams for instrument milestone reviews
  • Identifying, tracking, and mitigating instrument-level technical risks

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility access.
  • B.S. in Engineering
  • 20+ years supporting microwave instrument sounders
  • NOAA/NASA experience desired

Basic Compensation: $210,600.00 - $315,900.00 The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
