Environmental Health And Safety Specialist
ASRC Federal Facilities Logistics, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. This role is in support of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Repair, Operations, Maintenance and Engineering (ROME) contract.
This program supports the facilities requirements at both sites as well as possible needs at GSFC remote sites and NASA Headquarters. Goddard Space Flight Center has two main campuses, Greenbelt, MD, and Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia's Eastern Shore.
Key Role:
- Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies.
- Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements.
- Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling as well as organizes and equips spill-control teams.
- Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures and prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals.
- Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.
- Delivers improvements of processes, systems, or products. Interfaces with internal and external parties.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to commercial environments.
- Ensure consistent safety practices across field operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards (e.g., electrical risks, working at heights, confined spaces).
- Perform safety training programs for staff, including OSHA compliance, electrical safety, and Fall protection.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents.
- Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety audits, training, and certifications.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through regular communication, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 0-2 years of experience in a related or applicable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to pass background requirements for site access
