State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 (Frederick, Carroll and Howard Counties) is currently recruiting for a Construction Project Engineer (Transportation Engineering Technician IV). This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of Work: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Project Engineer on a medium size or moderately complex road or bridge construction project, an assistant project engineer on a large or complex project, or as a fully proficient inspector under the supervision of a higher-level technician on a highly complex project. The Project Engineer will interpret and apply the various contract documents, state laws, codes, standards, and policies. This position will also provide guidance regarding the best way to handle a problem/conflict, or a potential problem/conflict, with the contractor(s).

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Selective Qualifications:
Two and a half (2.5) years of experience in construction or maintenance inspection.
Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.
2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in either engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the five-year experience requirement.
