Child Support Specialist Supervisor

This Statewide recruitment has been opened to establish a list of eligible candidates to be used to fill current and future vacancies occurring in our Local Departments of Social Services throughout the State. Please indicate the counties in which you are willing to accept employment on your application.

The main purpose of the job is to supervise Child Support Specialists who investigate and analyze child support cases and initiate appropriate actions to establish, maintain or enforce support payments for dependent children in accordance with applicable federal and State laws, rules and regulations.

Examples of work include planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the work of lower-level Child Support Specialists and assigned support staff; training staff in investigating and analyzing child support cases; monitoring staff activity and prioritizing workload; developing and implementing procedures to meet the goals of the Child Support program; establishing corrective action plans; providing leadership in incorporating strategic planning and quality management; serving as a liaison between the Child Support Enforcement Administration and other State agencies, the States Attorneys Office and the courts; assisting agency management in developing and improving services and funding sources related to program development and enhancement; participating in community, inter-departmental, intra-State, and inter-State meetings and forums related to child support issues; using mainframe and personal computer systems and software to prepare and submit management, financial and technical reports; working with the Sheriffs Office to develop solutions to problems related to serving child support warrants and body attachments; responding to inquiries from custodial and non-custodial parents, courts, public officials, attorneys and employers in order to resolve problems related to child support cases; conducting customer orientations and making presentations in the community about child support programs and services; assisting employers to understand and comply with child support wage withholding procedures; administering the child support program in the absence of the Assistant Director; assisting with preparation of the annual budget; drafting correspondence for the Assistant Director; and performing other related duties.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience investigating and analyzing child support cases and initiating appropriate actions to establish, maintain or enforce support payments for dependent children in accordance with federal and State laws, rules and regulations. Candidates may substitute additional experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education, possess a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience, or substitute experience determining eligibility for government assistance programs for one year of the required experience.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
