We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Chief Engineer to join the opening team at The St. Regis London. This role is central to maintaining the integrity, safety, and elegance of our property. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside Chief Engineer and the Director of Engineering to safeguard the hotel's physical assets while ensuring guest and employee satisfaction through proactive communication, training, and service excellence.

You will assist the Director of Engineering and Chief Engineer in capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. With a focus on safety, security, and asset protection, you will oversee daily operations, supervise staff and contractors, and ensure the property reflects the timeless glamour and modern sophistication of the St. Regis brand.

Supporting Management of Property Operations

  • Supervise distribution and completion of repair work orders
  • Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees
  • Monitor timeliness and quality of repair work completion
  • Supervise Engineering and related areas in absence of the Director of Engineering
  • Assist in managing the physical plant including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employees to align with business objectives and recognize performance
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, renovations, and equipment replacement
  • Select and purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments

Maintaining Property Standards

  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine required work
  • Maintain accurate logs and records as required
  • Operate generators and fire pumps when necessary
  • Provide emergency response services 24/7
  • Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as needed
  • Ensure employees have proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms

Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

  • Empower employees to deliver excellent customer service
  • Emphasize guest satisfaction during departmental meetings and drive continuous improvement
  • Set a positive example for guest relations

Conducting Human Resources Activities

  • Train employees in safety procedures
  • Support departmental orientation and new hire training programs
  • Communicate performance expectations clearly for each position
  • Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to SOPs and LSOPs
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring team members with appropriate skills
  • Participate in employee performance appraisals and provide feedback
  • Utilize on-the-job training tools for employee development
  • Solicit employee feedback and foster open communication
  • Supervise staffing levels to balance guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives

We are searching for a technically skilled leader with a passion for excellence in property operations. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in engineering and maintenance, strong organizational skills, and the ability to inspire a team to uphold the highest standards of safety and service.

You should have:

  • A 2-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major, plus 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance, with technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing
