Operations Technician Trainee

The Operations Technician Trainee position is located at Marathon Pipe Line's Wood River, IL facility. This position works in and around refined petroleum products and crude oil facilities executing Operations & Logistics, Damage Prevention, Right of Way Relations activities duties. The successful candidate will perform such duties as: tasks associated with pipeline movements and measurements, terminal/station operations, marine operations, perform routine facility checks, climbing storage tanks, facilitating, and monitoring pipeline movements and conducting refined product, feedstocks, and crude oil sampling, tank switches and product cuts; assure accordance with all regulations in support of DOT, Environmental, Safety and Regulatory compliance. Travel, call-outs, 12hr rotating shift work and overtime will be required as part of this position.

The successful candidate is required to live within 45 minutes of the reporting location at MPL Wood River station which is in Wood River, IL.

Responsibilities

The Operations Technician will perform tasks associated with pipeline, terminal activities, measurements, perform routine stations checks, respond to and resolve station alarms and communicate findings to appropriate parties, respond to right of way conflicts, generate computerized work requests for maintenance tasks, coordinate and communicate maintenance activities, complete all required training, and perform work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner in accordance with all Environmental, Safety and Regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required. An Associate's degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills is expected. Previous pipeline experience with emphasis on electrical/mechanical is highly preferred.
  • Must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift and nights.
  • Successful candidate will be required to get a TWIC.
  • Successful candidate will be required to submit to a background check that includes a Motor Vehicle Report.
