Nursing Director of Surgical Services

MaineGeneral Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nursing Director of Surgical Services to lead our surgical programs across both the Augusta and Waterville campuses. This leader will oversee the Operating Rooms (ORs), Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACUs), and Same-Day Surgery departments, ensuring excellence in patient care, operational efficiency, and team development. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of surgical services leadership experience and a strong commitment to MaineGeneral's mission of providing exceptional, compassionate care to our community.

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Director of Surgical Services

Location: MaineGeneral Health – Augusta & Waterville Campuses

Schedule: Full-time, Exempt

What You'll Do:

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

What We're Looking For:

  • Active State of Maine RN license (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Minimum of five years of leadership experience in Surgical Services
  • Proven success in leading teams, managing complex operations, and fostering a culture of excellence
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and collaboration skills
