Nice to Know
Report to the Program Supervisor, the NPI Injection Molding Engineer is responsible for the industrialization of injected plastic components within the NPI process — from tooling kick-off to validation and final release for mass production. Ensure that all molded parts are dimensionally and functionally validated, process-capable, and manufacturable within the defined cycle time and quality targets. Support cross-functional teams to identify design improvements, drive tool tuning, and manage mold trials.
My Day at EssilorLuxottica
- Support mold design validation and tooling kick-off, and feedback to ensure manufacturability and injection feasibility.
- Coordinate and attend mold trials. Collect key parameters, and drive tuning activities to achieve dimensional, cosmetic, and functional targets.
- Define and validate injection parameters (pressure, temperature, cooling, etc.) to optimize cycle time while maintaining quality and mold/tool safety.
- Identify and resolve molding issues (e.g., sink marks, warpage, flow lines, short shots, flash). Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions during validation builds.
- Verify resin compatibility, color consistency, and behavior in mold.
- Work closely with design, tooling, quality, and production teams to ensure smooth transition of parts from samples to serial production.
- Prepare detailed trial reports, and maintain mold history files until hand-over to production. Track and follow open issues until closure.
- Ensure molded parts are available on time for sample making schedule. Validate part readiness against aesthetic, structural, and assembly fit requirements.
- Comply with the local and group policies.
- Comply with the ISO certifications and other group systems.
- Contribute to the external/internal audits.
Must Have
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field
- Solid understanding of injection molding processes, tooling concepts, and thermoplastics behavior
- Experience with mold validation and troubleshooting techniques (DOE, scientific molding, etc.)
- Knowledge of dimensioning systems (GD&T), tolerances, and part qualification methods
- Familiarity with mold flow analysis and CAE tools is a plus
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and coordination in cross-functional environments
Proficient with technical documentation and reporting tools
