We are looking for a social anthropologist at the early stage of their career. The position includes both research and teaching in social anthropology at undergraduate and advanced levels. The position consists of 50% research and 50% teaching and possible administrative duties. Some teaching in sociology and gender studies may also be included.
The duties involve conducting high-quality research in social anthropology at an international level, as well as delivering high-quality teaching at all levels of education. The incumbent is expected to actively contribute to a positive development and deepened research collaboration between the department's divisions, including applying for external research funding and publishing. The position also involves contributing to the development of the department's joint educational offerings. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English.
According to Lund University's employment regulations, general eligibility for teaching staff requires suitability and the necessary skills to fulfill the duties of the position.
To be eligible for appointment as an Associate senior lecturer, the applicant must hold a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in social anthropology or have achieved equivalent scientific competence. Priority will be given to applicants who have obtained their PhD or equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline, unless special circumstances apply (e.g., parental leave or illness).
Applicants must hold a PhD in social anthropology (or equivalent scientific competence) and have experience in teaching and research in social anthropology. We welcome applicants with the experience in teaching within the departments' joint course offerings. Experience in collaboration with external stakeholders is also a significant merit.
Applicants whose native language is not Swedish are expected, within two years of employment, to acquire sufficient proficiency in Swedish (spoken and written) to teach in Swedish and actively participate in administrative and other relevant activities conducted in Swedish.
Applicants must demonstrate documented scientific proficiency. Having received external research funding is a merit. Applicants must also demonstrate documented teaching proficiency and relevant teaching experience for the department's educational programs. Furthermore, applicants must be able to work independently, responsibly, and in a structured manner in both teaching and research. Good collaboration skills are required.
This is a career development position, and applicants who obtained their PhD in social anthropology or equivalent no more than five years before the application deadline will be prioritized. The assessment will place particular emphasis on the applicant's potential for development in scientific proficiency, especially in social anthropology.
Scientific proficiency includes international publication, applying for external research funding, independent research, participation in international collaborations, and the degree of progression since the dissertation. High competence in qualitative methods and ethnographic fieldwork is particularly meritorious. Experience in visual anthropology is also advantageous. Great emphasis is placed on teaching ability and collaboration skills, including with external stakeholders. Some emphasis is also placed on administrative skills. Top-ranked candidates will be invited to give a trial lecture, which will also be part of the assessment.
