Dean, College of Health and Human Services

Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) seeks an innovative, student-centered, and collaborative leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean provides academic, strategic, and administrative leadership for the College, ensuring excellence in teaching, scholarship, accreditation, and community engagement. The Dean is expected to foster an environment of academic integrity, innovation, and inclusion while ensuring that the College remains aligned with LSUA's strategic priorities of student success and community impact. The Dean is a 12-month, academic employee.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all academic programs within the College of Health and Human Services.
  • Facilitate and grow strategic partnerships with local and regional education and healthcare organizations.
  • Oversee strategic planning and goals of the College in alignment with accreditation and university standards.
  • Support the work of academic directors, including faculty evaluation, faculty reappointment and promotion processes, program development, and budget and resource management.
  • Supervise department chairs in curriculum planning, course scheduling, and faculty teaching assignments.
  • Facilitate accreditation processes for all academic programs within the College in collaboration with directors and department chairs.
  • Facilitate off-campus instructional sites (OCIS) and partnerships in education and healthcare programs.
  • Manage academic processes and decisions related to LSUA's Healthcare Education Campus in downtown Alexandria.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop faculty in collaboration with directors and department chairs.
  • Support faculty development, evaluation, and equitable distribution of responsibilities.
  • Support student recruitment strategies and programming for the College.
  • Foster a positive climate of open communication among faculty, staff, students, and university leadership.
  • Ensure high standards of academic advising, student support, and retention strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of college budgets.
  • Support LSU Continuing Education in development and implementation of programming related to healthcare and education.
  • Lead initiatives in assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement aligned with institutional goals.
  • Represent the College of Health and Human Services on institutional committees, including Deans Council.
  • Facilitate public relations and community engagement efforts for the college.
  • Provide instructional support by teaching one course/3 credit hours per academic year in the candidate's field of expertise.
  • Promote the integration of educational technology and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chancellor or the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic and Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral or terminal degree in a discipline represented within the College or a closely related field is preferred; however, candidates with a master's degree in a related field and extensive career and leadership experience in healthcare or higher education will be considered.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in higher education or a related industry sector, including budget management, accreditation processes, and faculty/staff leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build collaborative partnerships across diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading health and human service programs in a public regional university setting.
  • Successful record of securing external funding through grants, contracts, or philanthropy.
  • Established relationships with healthcare, education, nonprofit, or governmental partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and expand innovative, workforce-aligned academic programs.

Hours: Eight (8) hours per day, Monday – Friday 40 hours a week. Additional hours worked as needed.
