Principal Software Engineer

Job Title

Implements the software development strategy for a set of Technology Products and applies business requirements and knowledge of software development lifecycles to guide the development of complex software products or customer solutions.

Role Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

- Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of technologies and/or thought leadership level of a technology, providing direction, mentoring and advising others on design, development and/or implementation best practice and processes

- Leads projects and promotes an inclusive and open culture

- Continues to build and demonstrates a breadth of knowledge of various domains within technology, understanding the linkages and dependencies of projects/work and the key senior stakeholders

- Creates and implements technical solution designs and resolves issues

- Supports technical roadmaps for the timely implementation of a technical solution strategy

- Advises stakeholders internally as a software development SME, utilising deep expertise of software development

- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of how the technology/domain strategy relates to and impacts own and others' work, holding responsibility for the implementation of strategy and culture within teams

- Evaluates how new technology or techniques may better implement the strategy, proposes patterns for its use and leads the development of reference code to set a standard

- Understands LSEG's commercial position in the market and how the product/service/domain fits into the organisation's commercial direction

- Leads the delivery of critical projects, working autonomously and with little direction; may ensure completion of work from other team members, coaching and delegating work when required

- Builds strong relationships with internal and external customers, growing own network and collaborating with other teams

- Communicates complex/technical information clearly and concisely in an audience appropriate format

Qualifications & Experience:

- Deep hands-on experience with Snowflake, including advanced data modeling, performance tuning, and security. SnowPro Core Certification advantageous but not essential.

- Extensive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, with a track record of building and optimizing complex pipelines in big data environments

- Proficiency in SQL, Python, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation for data engineering solutions

- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and their integration with Snowflake

- Familiarity with GitLab and Agile development methodologies

Nice to Have:

- Knowledge of either Google Big Query or Databricks

- Airflow/DAG Orchestration experience

- Two or more programming languages with proven experience: Python, Java, .NET. Go
