Performance Quality Engineer

The Performance Quality Engineer will contribute to small and large-scale Agile projects by executing both functional and non-functional testing, with a strong emphasis on performance validation. The role involves designing and executing performance test scenarios, retesting defect fixes, and supporting code release initiatives. Responsibilities include creating test cases based on documentation and system requirements, developing automated performance tests, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute performance and quality assurance activities across the full testing lifecycle, from planning to execution and reporting.
  • Create performance-focused test plans and recommend improvements to testing strategies and processes.
  • Build, maintain, and review test cases and performance scenarios based on business and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify performance expectations, define SLAs, and participate in estimation and planning sessions.
  • Develop and maintain automated performance test suites, identify coverage gaps, and integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Perform manual and automated execution of both functional and non-functional tests, including load, stress, and scalability testing; document and analyze results.
  • Conduct peer reviews of test artifacts, including performance test scripts and reports.
  • Monitor and triage performance-related defects, perform retests, and coordinate with development teams for resolution.
  • Adhere to established performance testing standards and contribute to continuous improvement of performance engineering practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers and stakeholders across multiple projects and workstreams to ensure system performance meets business needs.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: 3–4 years as a Quality Engineer with a strong foundation in structured automated testing, now expanding into performance engineering with a focus on system efficiency and scalability.
  • Performance Testing Tools: Working knowledge of tools such as JMeter, Postman, and exposure to k6 or Gatling for load, stress, and endurance testing.
  • Automation Frameworks: Intermediate proficiency in Cucumber, Playwright, or Cypress, with experience integrating performance validations into automated test suites.
  • Programming: Intermediate experience in automation programming, preferably in Java, with additional scripting in JavaScript or Python for performance test development.
  • API Testing: Familiarity with REST API performance testing using JMeter, Postman, and custom scripts to validate response times and throughput.
  • Testing Practices: Experience with shift-left testing approaches, functional and non-functional testing, including performance, scalability, and reliability testing.
  • CI/CD Tools: Working knowledge of Git-based repositories, Jenkins, JIRA, and other CI/CT/CD tools, with experience integrating performance tests into pipelines.
  • Cloud Applications: Experience in testing cloud-based applications, with growing familiarity in performance monitoring and optimization in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
  • AI Tools & Testing: Exposure to AI-powered testing tools and methodologies, with interest in leveraging AI for performance anomaly detection and predictive analysis.
  • Soft Skills: Independent, proactive, and capable of multitasking. Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams across geographies, especially in performance triage and tuning discussions.
