This position is for the Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) program, one of Lockheed Martin's best-in-class Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity and reliability. This position is for a Mechanical Engineering Manager in the Post Boost Control System (PBCS) IPT that both collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the PBCS IPT with our Navy partner, LM leadership, and suppliers, with many opportunities for career development along the way. The PBCS IPT is responsible for the development, manufacture, and management of the PBCS which is an attitude control and propulsive subsystem. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead our PBCS Design and Analysis Team. Specifically, you will be responsible for managing the engineers on the team, developing the teams technical skills, and ensuring technical excellence for all products developed by the team. The team is currently broken into two teams, design- which is responsible for 3-D models and analysis- which performs physics-based models in Simulink, Stress, Thermal, and Fluids. In this role you will ensure these teams support the IPTs while also ensuring all work products meet applicable requirements before releasing work. You will manage a team of 20+ with two Asc. Managers reporting to yourself.

The successful candidate will be a full spectrum leader, build lasting partnerships with our Navy counterparts, focus on financial and strategic objectives, and work closely with a range of other leaders on FBM. The candidate will be expected to aid in the hiring process as the team grows. It will be critical to build a team culture focused on meeting program commitments while maintaining technical discipline.

Desired skills:

  • Missile and/or aerospace related education or experience
  • Experience Satellite or Missile Propulsion
  • Prior management experience
  • Experience with FBM processes and products
  • Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very sophisticated problems and implement constructive change
  • Risk and opportunity experience with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts
  • Experience in areas of cost analysis, schedule, and risk & opportunity management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership and initiative

Ability to work remotely:

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

9x80 every other Friday off
