As an ATLO (Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations) Mechanical Test Engineer on the Orion program, you will be responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of mechanical integration activities for the Orion spacecraft for Artemis III (lunar landing) and future missions. We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Test Engineer on the Orion Program responsible for the coordination of all aspects of test preparation and execution. Summary of key duties for this position:

  • Develop test plans, test procedures, and schematics for system and subsystem-level mechanical tests on the Orion spacecraft and test articles.
  • Understanding the Orion spacecraft assembly, integration and test flow and the associated processes including test execution, anomaly resolution, and paper closure.
  • Collaborate with team members across the program including systems engineering, CPEs/RSEs, software, test labs, manufacturing, quality, and NASA.
  • Lead execution of test procedures on current flight articles (Artemis III and Artemis IV) and future vehicles under Orion production.
  • Tests include acceptance testing, environmental testing and ground servicing of flight hardware (including fluids & pneumatic systems, mechanical structures and mechanisms) at the assembly, subsystem and spacecraft level of assembly.
  • Test activities will primarily take place at Kennedy Space Center, but the position will be required to support test efforts at other locations for periods of time.
  • Periodic off-shift and weekend work will be required.

Desired skills:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • Willingness to travel to other LM Space campuses to perform Test Engineering activities.
  • Certified Test Conductor (CTC) training.
  • Fundamental knowledge of test engineering, operations, and processes.
  • Experience with structural, environmental or pneumatic testing.
  • Experience using Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (pneumatic or fluids loading panels).
  • Experience with fluid systems, such as Propulsion or Environmental Control and Life Support.
  • Experience writing test plans, test procedures, or technical documents.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules.
  • Knowledge of the Orion spacecraft or experience on a production spacecraft program.
  • Experience using Automation Framework tools.
  • Thorough understanding of LM command media for Test Engineering.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $109,200 - $192,510. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
