Technical Manual Illustrator/Writer – Engineering

The Technical Manual Illustrator will create, update, and modify Parts Manuals, Service Manuals, Operating Manuals, and other technical instructions/documents as required. Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements, gather information from subject-matter experts, and develop, organize, and write procedures, technical specifications, and process documentation. Reviews and ensures all documents/manuals are accurate, meet our specifications, and adhere to our quality, formatting, and style standards.

  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Gain a deep understanding of products and translate complex information into simple, engaging content.
  • Must be able to research, review, and understand technical information and develop procedural knowledge for technical documentation.
  • Must be able to translate written requirements into graphic illustrations.
  • Designs and develops graphics and images to be used in technical instructions and manuals.
  • Gather information from engineering, service, suppliers, and shop floor personnel to update or create operating, parts, and service manuals.
  • Create, publish, and edit digital manuals.
  • Review and edit documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Archive and file all technical documents.
  • Write, research, and prepare technical reports.
  • Write and monitor work instructions.
  • Continuous improvement of the manuals through suggestions.
  • Create and convert 3D SolidWorks models into visually appealing technical illustrations.
  • Prepare all types of documents for translation.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Certified Technical Writer
  • Industrial or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma from a recognized institution

Desired Characteristics

  • Experienced in a technical writing/graphics environment.
  • Be proficient in using Adobe Acrobat software, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and CorelDraw.
  • An ability to use Solid-Works and Auto-cad would be an asset.
  • An ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, blueprints, and product specifications would be an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of industry experience in a technical writing/graphics environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of ISO requirements.
