LHH is partnering with a healthcare focused organization to help them find their new Data Engineer. In this role you will help power the data foundation behind the company's analytics, reporting, and program evaluation efforts. You'll build the systems and pipelines that ensure high-quality, reliable data flows across the organization. Our client is located in Oakland and has a limited hybrid schedule of 2 days in office a month required. This is a direct hire, FTE opportunity!

What You'll Do

You'll be the SME behind the scenes who ensures data is accessible, trusted, and optimized for analysis. This includes:

  • Building and supporting cloud-based data environments using AWS services.
  • Creating scalable pipelines that ingest data from multiple systems.
  • Design data structures, tables, and models that power analytics and reporting.
  • Design and implement schemas, tables, views, queries, and stored procedures optimized for performance, ensuring data integrity, governance, and security.
  • Optimizing performance across ETL/ELT workflows.
  • Automating deployments through modern DevOps tooling.
  • Implementing guardrails around data quality, governance, and security.
  • Enhancing observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and SNS.
  • Keeping documentation clear, usable, and up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and industry security frameworks.
  • Staying ahead of new AWS data tools and best practices.

This role plays a big part in enabling the organization to measure performance, strengthen decision-making, and communicate impact.

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who loves building data systems and solving tough engineering challenges. To thrive here, you should have:

  • A degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing data models and warehouse structures.
  • 2+ years experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS for data engineering work.
  • Excellent SQL and Python skills for transforming and optimizing data.
  • Experience with dimensional modeling and schema design (Star/Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with data-centric AWS tools (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, Athena, RDS).
  • Experience maintaining reliable ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to troubleshoot complex workflows.
  • An understanding of regulated data handling, especially around privacy and compliance.
