Engineering Lead - Data
We are seeking a Data Engineering Team Leader to join our Sydney team and take ownership of the strategic direction and delivery of the Lendi Group Data Platform.
The ideal candidate is an experienced technical leader with strong expertise in data architecture, data modelling, analytics engineering, and cloud-native data platforms. You will lead the evolution of our data ecosystem, drive engineering best practices, and support scalable data and AI capabilities across the business.
You will:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Data Engineering team through coaching, accountability, and a strong engineering culture.
- Drive delivery of scalable data products and modern platform capabilities aligned to business and AI transformation goals.
- Design and implement scalable warehouse and lakehouse data models, transformation frameworks, and migration-safe data solutions using tools such as dbt.
- Own end-to-end development of cloud-native data pipelines, orchestration frameworks, and data platforms across Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Airflow, and modern ingestion tooling.
- Guide architecture, engineering standards, and delivery practices across ingestion, transformation, migration, modelling, testing, and platform operations
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business problems into clear, prioritised, and executable engineering outcomes
- Establish governance guardrails across ownership, data quality, security, cost optimisation, and operational support models.
- Drive platform reliability, CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code, and secure-by-design engineering practices.
- Support AI-native reporting, agentic systems, and advanced data enablement through scalable integration patterns and trusted datasets.
- Champion documentation, lineage, monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement across the platform.
Qualifications
- 8+ years' experience delivering modern, scalable cloud-based data platforms and engineering solutions.
- Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring high-performing Data Engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
- Deep expertise across Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, SQL, Python, and modern ETL/ELT frameworks.
- Strong hands-on experience with dbt, Airflow, orchestration tooling, and production-grade data pipeline development.
- Extensive experience designing scalable warehouse and lakehouse data models for analytics, reporting, and AI use cases.
- Strong understanding of data governance, observability, data quality, and platform reliability best practices.
- Experience delivering ingestion, transformation, and migration initiatives across modern data stacks and cloud ecosystems.
- Ability to balance strategic platform thinking with hands-on technical leadership and delivery execution.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable engineering outcomes.
- Strong ownership mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, operational excellence, and business impact.
