Infrastructure Engineer

Because of a key strategic development and a new exciting business opportunity, we have a requirement for a security-cleared Infrastructure Engineer based in the UK working at our Farnborough site.

What Will You Be Doing?

As a result of some exciting programme wins, we currently have a permanent vacancy for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support the development, transition & in-service running (including capability upgrades) of an IT application and infrastructure solution providing support to a critical operational end user.

The preferred candidate will demonstrate effective application of Infrastructure Engineering in secure environments, with expertise and extensive knowledge across a variety of technologies and platforms, VMware stack technologies (ESXi, vSphere, NSX, VCLM), Microsoft stack technologies (AD, DNS, GPO, WSUS etc.), Linux (RHEL) server management and hardware including but not limited to Dell PowerEdge Servers, PowerVault storage, QNAP, Nexor data diodes.

The role will provide technical exposure variance across both outcomes-based project activities and operational (Business as Usual) support activities.

Your passions and experience will help you become a technical specialist and process owner with our operations support services including service improvement and add further value to our service offerings. You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation (LLDs, Work Instructions and Operational Wiki's) and provide material to support the project work or the operational support service.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and be able to work autonomously to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with Secure by Design, project milestones and customer KPIs and SLAs. You must be an effective communicator, comfortable with directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.

The successful individual will be responsible for:

  • Working with the team to plan and implement modern, scalable infrastructure using a range of new and emerging technologies including automation.
  • Collaborate with customers on all aspects of infrastructure management including the assurance and integration of infrastructure services to meet the needs of multiple lines of business.
  • Recognise and exploit business opportunities by leveraging architecture and design best practice.
  • Communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context.
  • Have Secure by Design at the forefront of any technology deployments and design input.

Who Do We Need?

We are looking for someone with excellent organisation and communication who has good general knowledge of infrastructure technologies including servers, networks, data diodes, firewalls, SAN storage and replication. Specifically:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of Window Server deployment and management in a data centre environment, including OS build, AD, DNS, WSUS, PKI and GPOs implementation and support
  • Strong experience in VMware virtualisation technologies (ESXi, vSphere, VCLM, NSX)
  • Appreciation of good practices for a successful data centre operation, including the installation and configuration of Dell hardware using iSCSI connectivity
  • Experience of configuring Dell networking switches, setting up VLANS, truck and access ports along with best networking practices
  • Have good general knowledge of Microsoft tooling such as PowerShell
  • Experience of Linux (RHEL)
  • Understand DevSecOps source control and solid experience with Infrastructure as code (IaC) tooling Terraform and Ansible
  • Additional experience of: Ivanti, Trellix, Veeam Backup and Replication, KeyClock IDAM
  • Appreciation of containerisation (Docker) and K8s
  • Exposure to and understanding of hyperscale clouds such as AWS (AWS Cloud Practitioner preferred but not essential)
  • Have excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Experience of operating in an Agile and or Scaled Agile environment where secure by design is the default approach to delivery but also familiar with waterfall methodology
  • DV Clearance is required.
