Field Support Technician — Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS)

Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Clearance Required: US Citizen; Currently possess an Active DoD Top Secret

Mission Overview

Join the Leidos National Security Sector as a Field Support Technician supporting the U.S. Navy's cutting-edge Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) program. This dynamic role blends technical mastery, strategic impact, and worldwide travel, supporting one of the most advanced maritime surveillance platforms afloat.

What You'll Do

  • Lead & Train: Guide network specialists and shipboard system admins in operating and maintaining mission-critical C4I systems and networks aboard SURTASS vessels.
  • Solve & Support: Dive into diagnostics, in-port maintenance, and system upgrades with hands-on precision during ship availability periods.
  • Optimize & Coordinate: Standardize procedures, troubleshoot advanced systems, and enforce best practices to ensure mission readiness.
  • Communicate & Collaborate: Act as a liaison between diverse teams including ship captains, government personnel, contractors, and military crews.
  • Travel & Deploy: Provide global technical support with flexibility for CONUS/OCONUS assignments — including at-sea operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or be a graduate of US Navy electronics "C" school or equivalent civilian electronics technical school. Additional experience, training, and/or certifications may substitute education requirement.
  • 8+ years hands-on experience in the industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of secure networks and communications systems, navigations systems, and sonar surveillance systems.
  • Thorough understanding of COTS maintenance requirements, and open architecture implications as well as, understanding of the administration of the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M).
  • Must have the ability to work under only very general supervision and able to provide training to shipboard assigned electronic maintenance technicians.
  • Position may require the ability to perform in and arduous environment.
  • U.S. Passport, valid driver's license, and ability to meet mariner's physical fitness requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior SURTASS shipboard technician experience.
  • Military electronics "C" school or equivalent civilian certification.
  • IAT II Certifications (Security+ or CCNA Security)
  • 5+ years of UNIX/Linux/Windows network management and CISCO systems.
  • Experience with Navy systems: ISNS, CENTRIXS, SCI, and secure communications.
  • TL-29A and advanced sonar array maintenance (CLFA, LFA, HFM3).
  • Proven track record with mission-critical subsystem repairs (GCCS-M, GPS, SHF/UHF SATCOM, HF, SIPR/NIPRNET).
