Engineering Technician

The NISC program at Leidos currently has an opening for an Engineering Technician to work in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Staging Facility in Independence, MO. This is an exciting opportunity to use your knowledge and experience to help with the National Airspace System Integration Support mission.

Join our team supporting the FAA's NEXCOM program, a mission-critical initiative modernizing the nation's air traffic communication infrastructure. In this role, you will provide fabrication and logistics support that directly enables reliable voice communications at Air Traffic Control Centers, radar installations, TRACONs, and other FAA facilities. Your contributions will help ensure the safety, efficiency, and continuity of the National Airspace System.

Duties Include but not Limited to:

  • Constructing component racks to meet all FAA equipment standards. May troubleshoot and correct malfunctions to fabricate and assemble a wide variety of electronic subassemblies.
  • Operate standard metal shop equipment such as, but not limited to, welding equipment, manual and hydraulic shears and punches, manual breaks, drill press, hand tools, powder coating equipment and paint spray equipment.
  • Inventory of parts, kits and other materials required for assembly.
  • Interpret running sheets, technical data books, electronic principals and theory, electrical/mechanical prints, and engineering drawings.
  • Adapt existing techniques, select electronic components, and arrange mechanical layout to meet engineering specifications for prototype, design, and development projects.
  • Select, install, and solder electronic components on printed circuit boards; cut and form various wires and harnesses; distinguish different wire size, colors, component color; test, sort and inspect small parts.
  • Contractor shall provide instruction to others regarding proper testing techniques and procedures.
  • Contractor shall establish and maintain documentation associated with the services performed.
  • Operate a pallet jack or forklift to move sub-assembly and electronics housings and equipment racks.
  • Prepare Daily Activity Log.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience with communication rack assembly/server room.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to Obtain Public Trust Clearance
  • Ability to pass a drug screening – This is a drug free workplace

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally - Climbing
  • Often - Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Talking, Hearing, Seeing
  • Lifting/Moving Requirements - Minimum of 35 pounds
