Food Service Worker II (Driving)

A Food Service Worker II (Driving) performs food preparation duties and packages food at a designated site, delivers meals to serving sites, and serves meals and collects funds or tickets.

Typical duties for this position include:

  • Preparing meals by packaging items in plastic, foil, or other containers and arranges them for delivery to another location.
  • Preparing food for distribution and may supervise student employees in distributing food.
  • Delivering food from a designated site to a serving site.
  • Cleaning food preparation and food distribution service areas.
  • Performing food preparation and sanitation duties.
  • Collecting tickets and funds and maintains records.
  • May make bank deposits of funds collected for meals.

Minimum requirements include:

Special:

  • A valid Los Angeles Unified School District Food Handlers Health Certificate.
  • A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle capable of carrying several hundred packaged meals.
  • A valid "ServSafe Certificate" issued by the National Restaurant Association or equivalent certificate.

Special Note: Attendance in and successful completion of a Food Services New Employee Training Program is required within three months of appointment.

Special Physical Requirements:

  • Safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk on concrete and tile floors for long periods of time
  • Withstand a wide range of temperatures

Desirable qualifications include knowledge of methods for preparing and serving entrées, vegetables, fruits, and other foods; the use and care of kitchen utensils, equipment, and food service tools; proper food storage and transportation; safety rules and procedures related to kitchen equipment; and basic arithmetic.

The selection process tentatively consists of a computerized multiple-choice assessment, which accounts for 100% of the overall score.
