Young Adult Support Worker

Launch Housing is an independent Melbourne based community organisation passionately committed to ending homelessness. From providing high quality housing and an innovative range of support, education, and employment services, we bring solutions to homelessness under one roof for thousands at risk of, or experiencing the crisis and trauma of homelessness.

The Young Adult Support Worker assists with the immediate and ongoing support needs of clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness, through the provision of a range of intervention options ensuring that the client's needs are translated into a personal program that encourages the client's independence, empowerment, autonomy, and dignity. This support may be provided in a range of environments including interim response support, funded accommodation services (THM, Youth Refuge), private housing, or via assertive outreach to clients experiencing housing crisis. This is a permanent part-time role (68.4 hours per fortnight) based at Cheltenham.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Work from strengths based and trauma informed case management practice frameworks, to support young people to identify and achieve their goals.
  • Develop case plans in conjunction with clients and implement strategies that enable clients to achieve their goals by building on their strengths and focusing on solutions.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with vulnerable clients using flexible engagement strategies to achieve case plan goals.
  • Coordinate services required by the client and monitor their ongoing effectiveness.
  • Maintain appropriate case management records and statistics.
  • Participate in regular supervision in which a reflective approach is taken in relation to service objectives and casework issues.
  • Participate in service review and development and identify and share good practice across Launch Housing program areas.
  • Participate in annual performance management planning in which service objectives and professional development needs are discussed and determined. Advocate on behalf of clients where agreed, including liaison with mental health, drug and alcohol services, legal institutes, government, and non-government service providers.

What We're Looking For (Key Selection Criteria):

  • Demonstrated experience in client facing human services, social work, or other relevant discipline, with a preference for an understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context, and systems.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth work, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate with young people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working ethically with young people, as defined by the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and both the individual and structural causes which lead to addiction and dependence.
  • Valid Victorian Driver's License (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
