The ride engineer maintains the Stratosphere rides, attractions, and tower equipment. Essential functions include performing scheduled maintenance and safety checks on the rides and attractions, troubleshooting and addressing ride system issues, following all operating and safety procedures, maintaining the ride equipment, tools and ride areas in a professional, neat and workmanlike manner, effectively communicating with other employees to address any developed ride system issues, demonstrating the ability to react professionally and rationally in emergency and high-pressure situations, immediately notifying the director of ride engineering of damaged or defective equipment and/or potential safety hazards, practicing ride-specific emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring that all paperwork is completed correctly on a daily basis, notifying the director of ride engineering of any ride system changes, maintaining Stratosphere equipment as directed, using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to accomplish maintenance tasks, following all Stratosphere policies and procedures, maintaining a professional attitude and manner at all times, and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, previous experience in an industrial trade (principally mechanical or electrical), and ability to read, analyze and understand documents, such as operations and maintenance instructions, blueprints and schematics and procedural manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals is also required.
Physical requirements include the ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, turn, step and climb in order to maintain ride equipment. Must be physically capable to lift and position items up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb up 4 flights of stairs and/or 240 feet of sectioned ladders. Vision, hearing, speech and literacy are critical. Ability to work (including perform routine maintenance) at extreme heights and in extreme weather conditions. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
