Materials Manager
This role is responsible for the Supply Chain, Materials Management and Logistics (SCMM&L) of a specific facility within the Division. The Materials Manager will be responsible for all issues related to Inventory Control, Inventory Forecasting, Tactical & MRO purchasing and Shipping/Receiving. Maintaining a proper and accurate raw material level is crucial for success in this role. The incumbent will routinely interact with associates at levels within the organization including Corporate, Divisional and Local plant.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Learn, apply, and promote the Vision, Mission, and Values of O'Neal Steel.
- Develop accurate and timely material forecast needs, working with Sales Management as needed. Assist the Administration Manager in developing information for consolidated strategic purchases.
- Coordinate with Major Account Managers and Corporate Purchasing on expedites, manual buys and spot buy needs.
- Oversee and maintain an accurate level of inventory through cycle counting and implementing root cause/corrective actions when necessary.
- Measure, track and report/improve relevant KPI's for the Materials function. These could include but are not limited to: On-Time Delivery, MUV, Inventory Adjustments, Cycle Count Accuracy, Inventory Turns, Obsolete / Slow Moving and Premium Freight.
- Responsible for monitoring and controlling all materials related Key Control documents such as Hold Code reports.
- Identify and develop sources for MRO needs. Drive continuous improvement in the total cost of MRO items.
- Identify and develop sources for outside purchased components and processes.
- Manage all freight carries into and out of the facility.
- Implement new technologies into the materials management function that will improve delivery and reduce shipping/receiving errors.
- Manage, coach, evaluate, and develop direct reports, and ensure training needs and requirements are met.
- Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of the position.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years in a managerial role.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
- Experience with ERP system required.
- Able to work in a high-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelors degree in business or manufacturing field, or equivalent experience, required.
- Speak conversational English.
- APICS Certification preferred.
- Lean Systems experience and/or 6-Sigma Green Belt or currently pursuing.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. as needed.
- Ability to bend, stand, climb, twist and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform sedentary work including sitting for extended periods of time.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Have a good vision of 20/30 with corrective lenses.
- Ability to maintain coordination of hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects with precision.
- Travel as needed to accomplish desired results. Overnight travel may be required occasionally.
- Subject to environmental conditions that occur indoors and outdoors which includes but is not limited to exposure to changing temperatures, loud noises, vibration from use of equipment and the following:
- Hazards: Variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin- fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, or poor ventilation.
- Oils: there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
