Engineering Team Leader

The Engineering Team Leader focuses on electrical design and leads a team of engineers responsible for developing schematics, specifications, and ladder logic for Makino's standard machinery. This role combines hands-on engineering work with leadership responsibilities, supporting daily execution of engineering tasks and guiding a group of electrical engineers. The Engineering Team Leader works closely with teams across engineering, manufacturing, software, and customer support to ensure that designs are technically sound, compliant with standards, and delivered on time. This position also plays a key role in mentoring team members, solving design challenges, and driving improvements in design practices and processes.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for electrical designs that include the creation of schematics, specifications, and control/ladder logic for Makino machine options.
• Provide technical guidance, resolve design issues, and ensure compliance with internal standards.
• Manage root cause analysis and corrective actions for design and field issues.
• Drive continuous improvement in design tools, workflows, and technical capabilities.
• Ensure all electrical designs meet customer requirements and applicable specifications.
• Create and revise documentation related to BOMs, cable drawings, part details, and installation instructions.
• Use ERP system (SAP) to create part numbers, manage revisions, and support engineering change control.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering design standards.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in applicable safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ISO, CE), with an emphasis on applying them to machine design.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Makino locations and global engineering groups, including the Makino R&D groups, to align designs, share best practices, and support joint development.
• Work with Purchasing, Fulfillment, and Project Management to ensure project needs are clearly communicated and executed.
• Collaborate with suppliers to address technical questions, part specifications, and quality or delivery concerns.
• Participate in customer meetings and support pre- and post-sale technical discussions.
• Minimal travel required, including potential international visits, for project support and teamwork development.
• Support machine options by reviewing estimates/quotations, estimating labor and material costs, and evaluating concept feasibility.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for electrical design questions, issue resolution, and project support.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Leads a team of electrical engineers, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring project deadlines are met.
• Provides technical guidance, coaching, and regular performance feedback.
• Conducts performance evaluations and supports employee development and training.
• Manages workload distribution and adjusts resources as needed.
• Supports hiring and onboarding in coordination with the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications:

• Proficient in electrical design for industrial machinery, including schematics, control systems, and control/ladder logic.
• Strong understanding of hardware and programming.
• Familiar with electrical codes and safety standards (e.g., NEC, UL, CE, NFPA).
