KKR's Technology team is responsible for building and supporting the firm's technological foundation including a globally distributed infrastructure, information security, and the application and data platforms. The team drives a culture of technology excellence across the firm through efficient workflow automation, democratization of data through modern data and collaboration platforms, and more recently through research and development of Generative AI based tools and services. Technology is regarded as a key business enabler at KKR and is an important accelerator to drive towards global scale creation and business process transformation. A dedicated Program Management function along with the Product Managers drive execution discipline across multiple technology teams with a goal to consistently deliver excellence serving our business needs. The Technology team consists of highly technical and business centric technologists with the ability to form strong partnerships across all of our businesses.

The Enterprise Systems Engineering team, part of KKR's Technology organization, is responsible for the design, delivery, and ongoing enhancement of the technology platforms that power key corporate functions, including Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, Risk, Finance, Human Capital, Corporate Services & Real Estate and Employee Digital Experience. The team partners closely with functional leaders and stakeholders across the business to deeply understand evolving needs and deliver technology that drives measurable impact. We focus on:

• Implementing and customizing enterprise SaaS platforms and custom applications.
• Integrating systems across corporate domains to enable seamless data flow and automation.
• Ensuring platform stability, data integrity, and strong controls in support of compliance and audit requirements.
• Innovating around the employee digital experience to promote productivity, collaboration, and engagement across the firm.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to join our Enterprise Systems team. This role will work closely with business stakeholders and product managers and drive the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing enterprise systems across our technology landscape. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker and hands-on technologist who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment. They will work with a global team of full-stack software developers to deliver a seamless digital experience for our clients and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Architecture & Strategy:
  • Design and develop end-to-end architecture for enterprise platforms, including GRC platforms, Surveillance, and monitoring, Legal enterprise solutions (CLM, Matter and document management), ERM, SOX, Employee portals and Intranet and custom-built systems.
  • Define and enforce architectural principles, patterns, and standards.
  • Lead the creation of solution blueprints, integration frameworks, and platform roadmaps.
• Engineering Leadership:
  • Lead and grow a high-performing global engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, inclusion, continuous learning, and agile delivery.
  • Guide engineering teams on system design, scalability, security, and data architecture best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to development when necessary.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks to drive innovation and modernization.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand complex requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Partner with IT operations, cybersecurity, data, and product teams to ensure seamless system integration and compliance.
• Governance & Documentation:
  • Maintain high-quality documentation of system architectures, decisions, and standards.
  • Establish design governance processes and participate in architecture review boards.
• Technology and Company-Wide Contribution:
  • Actively contribute to Technology and company-wide priorities, offering input beyond the immediate engineering role to support broader company objectives and initiatives.

Qualifications and key competencies:

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in an enterprise architecture or senior design role
• Deep expertise in enterprise systems architecture (e.g., ERP, GRC, financial systems, SaaS platforms)
• Strong background in system integration patterns, APIs, data pipelines, and service-oriented architecture (SOA or microservices)
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Proven experience working with identity/access management, security standards and regulatory compliance
• Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills
• Ability to drive client-focused product design in an agile environment
• Skilled in mentoring engineers on secure, reliable, and scalable software development practices
• Promotes the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and encourages innovative problem-solving
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
