Civil Engineer Opportunity

Kimley-Horn's Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA) office is seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Natural Gas team! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  1. Designing electrical power distribution, SCADA systems
  2. Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development, I/O list development
  3. Instrumentation selection
  4. Control panel layout and wiring
  5. Detailed loop wiring diagrams
  6. PLC equipment list development
  7. Managing project tasks, project design and permitting, construction coordination, and providing regular communication and guidance with less experienced staff
  8. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and external clients to contribute to the successful completion of assigned projects
  9. Maintain a high degree of quality sets of plans along with checking the work of others
  10. Create work plans and adhere to the budget set by the client and performing strong project management knowledge
  11. Attend meetings and communicate with clients, government entities, and various regulatory agencies to fulfill any regulations and requirements relating to projects
  12. Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules
  13. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of engineers and designers on a variety of projects
  14. You will flourish on both building meaningful internal and external professional relationships
  15. You will work closely and collaboratively with other industry leading professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Experience with instrumentation selection and specification, process control strategies and SCADA selection and specification
  • Experience designing electrical SCADA systems
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated; sense of urgency to produce high quality work
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the potential/desire to lead a practice and manage clients and a team
