Senior Water Resources Engineer, Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers has an immediate opening for a Senior Water Resources Engineer in our growing Design Engineering group. In this role, you will execute complex Water Resource designs for projects across North America including design-build, progressive design-build, and construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC). We seek a technical expert - one who has in-depth technical expertise that can be drawn upon to inform various projects across North America, while also providing mentorship to junior and mid-level staff in advanced hydrologic and hydraulic design topics.
As a Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will be leading and mentoring engineers/designers and collaborating with our other design centers to provide drainage and water resources engineering expertise and designs for design/build and other alternative delivery projects across North America. This position is based out of our Westlake office in Westlake Texas and includes travel opportunities to project offices and work sites up to 25%. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule based on location and the candidate's experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Lead Stormwater Design on a variety of transportation, energy, utilities and ports and marine projects.
- Guide and mentor teams responsible for completing engineering assignments in support of civil design build projects that includes drainage design, water quality, detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (using various models and methods), erosion and sediment control, preparation of design plans, reports and technical memoranda.
- Lead others in various design areas which could include: hydraulics, pavement drainage, culverts, storm systems, scour and revetment design (supporting bridge design), sediment transport, and stream restoration/embankment stabilization.
- Execute and lead plan production, specifications, estimates and drainage design development and may be responsible / in charge of engineering work and will be the Engineer of Record for final design projects.
- Guide engineering teams in interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that drainage project elements are compatible.
- Develop project communications on status of designs/analysis, lead/attend project technical meetings and provide coordination to resolve design issues.
- Provide oversight and direction to the design team, while providing supervision, mentoring of mid-level and junior staff.
- Lead a team of experienced staff, promote staff development through training, mentoring, and career planning.
- Oversee/create preliminary design concepts and alternatives for drainage designs, leading quality control reviews.
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering, Water Resources (or similar field)
- Minimum of 15 years of design experience in drainage, water resources, hydraulics or hydrology in either transportation or land development projects in the U.S.
- Active PE license required in the State of Texas.
- Alternative delivery experience is a plus.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with individuals.
- Must have experience mentoring others - (training on advanced topics, development of workflows and "how-tos", etc.).
- Ideal H&H software experience includes any or all of the following: HEC-HMS, SWMM, TR-55, HEC-RAS, HEC-GEORAS, HY-8, OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, CivilStorm, PondPack, FlowMaster; SWMM, 2D experience helpful such as SRH-2D, FLO-2D.
- Experience with Storm water management, (water quality & runoff control), and temporary drainage and erosion control design during construction.
- Familiarity with flood risk analysis and knowledge of the NFIP including CLOMR and LOMRs
- This position includes occasional travel to project offices and work sites up to 25%.
