Renewables Electrical Estimator - Kiewit Power Engineering

Location: Lenexa, KS, US

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for taking client requested scopes and incorporating solutions from the engineering, environmental, procurement, start-up, and construction groups to produce an estimate. Core objectives include functional understanding and interpretation of RFP documents, application of historical rate and production information, and fostering the development and growth of the estimating department staff through mentoring and improved work processes to meet the needs of renewable power clients.

Kiewit's Power Engineering Group brings various project types to life across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables and new technology, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office with opportunity for flexible work.

Responsibilities

  • Will review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or Joint Venture partners to determine the completeness of data used, and procedures, and will aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Reviews the Owner's plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project, which will aid him in developing a plan for the actual construction, which will serve as the basis for the estimate; also reviews all bid and contract documents.
  • Will conduct a site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to acquaint him/herself with any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Will utilize recognized engineering techniques and procedures in conducting the investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures in obtaining the complete information required or necessary.
  • Will perform design work as required by the nature of the project that is beyond the scope of experience of the Engineer-Estimator, and must be capable of handling major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
  • Must keep current on various trends and developments, such as new equipment, means and methods, and procedures that are developing in the industry and in his/her specialized area (i.e., mechanical, electrical, etc.).
  • Prepares special studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions.
  • Consults with Owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or construction-related technology from ABET accredited four-year college or university, OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
  • Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience in wind power plants and solar projects
  • Extensive knowledge through demonstrated experience of heavy industrial construction and especially wind and solar power plants.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
