Instructional Designer & Trainer - Kiewit Equipment Services

Location: Denver, CO, US Lone Tree, CO, US

We are seeking an experienced Instructional Designer & Trainer who can both design high-quality learning content and confidently facilitate training sessions. This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, curious, and comfortable learning complex content in order to translate it into practical, engaging training for adult learners. This position supports learning needs across construction, technology, and corporate environments. The successful candidate will not only deliver training, but also understand how the content is applied in real work settings and be able to answer fundamental learner questions about its use.

Kiewit Equipment Services (KES) helps to ensure the profitability of Kiewit projects through the improved equipment utilization and mechanical reliability by delivering world-class equipment and service.

This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain instructor-led, virtual, online, and blended learning solutions, including agendas, learning objectives, activities, facilitator guides, and assessments
  • Independently learn, validate, and contextualize content to ensure technical accuracy and relevance to real-world job application.
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions with professionalism, confidence, and strong classroom management.
  • Translate complex topics into clear, learner-focused training using adult learning principles and practical examples.
  • Develop learning materials using tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, and other instructional technologies.
  • Update and adapt existing materials to support multiple delivery formats while maintaining consistency and accuracy.
  • Manage curriculum components by partnering with subject matter experts, identifying learning needs, defining objectives, and evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Prepare for training independently, ensuring all materials, technology, and logistics are validated and ready prior to delivery.
  • Adapt facilitation in real time by reading the room, adjusting pacing, modifying examples, and progressing past content learners already understand.
  • Ask effective, varied questions that encourage participation and confirm understanding.
  • Proactively coordinate logistical needs related to training delivery, including materials, technology readiness, and alignment with co-facilitators.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and engagement at all times during training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, organizational development, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 3+ years of experience in instructional design, corporate training, learning and development, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and their application to both content design and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently learn new content and translate it into effective training.
  • Strong facilitation and classroom management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using eLearning authoring tools and standard design software.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% to job sites or other locations to learn processes, observe work in the field, and apply that knowledge to training design and delivery

Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

Base Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
