Role reports to: Packaging Warehouse Business Unit Mgr

Location: North America, Canada, Ontario, Guelph

Work Location: Fully Onsite

This is a 12-18 month Fixed Term Contract. The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting continuous improvement in the Packaging area through the completion of assigned projects to improve the overall: Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and/or Cost effectiveness of the operation.

During the initial training period the Engineer will support the Senior Process Engineer while learning the equipment and manufacturing systems but will be expected to in short duration transition to managing and executing their own projects.

The Process Engineer will also support the Packaging Specialist through deviation investigations, corrective action identification & implementation, and effectiveness checks.

While primarily working cooperatively with internal stakeholders, the incumbent will also be required to coordinate with and manage external Kenvue partners as necessary.

The process engineer will be responsible for improving packaging line efficiency, using the production management system to identify opportunities and monitor progress, as well as center lining the equipment to support setup of the lines.

The process engineer is expected to work in a fast-paced environment independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules and performs engineering projects to evaluate, select, and adapt or modify standard manufacturing techniques, procedures, and criteria to increase the efficiency of the packaging operations.
  • Provides direction and technical support in identified continuous improvements to operations, including looking for areas where implementing new technologies will improve safety, quality, or costs. Monitors OEE and conducts routine RCPS for top downtime offenders.
  • Supports and performs as directed qualification/validation activities for equipment (e.g. FAT, SAT, DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ).
  • Leads and participates in investigations, develops plans, and executes tasks to tackle process problems including Nonconformances (NC), complaint investigations, audit observations, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Performs analysis and communicates associated trends.
  • Review processes with Operators to identify opportunities for equipment repairs or improvements, or process improvements. Act as a coordinator between Packaging, Quality, and Technical Operations to facilitate the process changes.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of Bachelors in Engineering
  • At least 2 years related experience
  • Experience working effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills, willing to dig deep to understand underlying issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed to manage priorities and adhere to deadlines
  • Good interpersonal, clear communication skills—communicates effectively.
  • Strong experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred area of study-Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Prior experience in solid dose manufacturing/packaging in an OTC or Pharmaceutical facility is a benefit
  • Prior experience with Tablet or liquid bottle filling operations
  • Understanding of GMP Quality Systems
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and experience in their application is an asset.
  • Experience in solid dose manufacturing in an OTC or pharmaceutical facility
  • Previous mechanical experience or training
