This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position. This National Guard position is for a Powered Support Systems Mechanic-Title 32, Position Description Number PDD1334000 and is part of the KY 123 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities include performing inspections and off-equipment maintenance on aircraft arresting systems, accomplishing gasoline engine rebuilding, and checking and adjusting various components. The role may involve stripping, sanding, and painting of aircraft arresting systems. The position requires solving repair or maintenance problems using technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and technical orders. It also involves replacing nylon tapes and steel wound cables due to wear, time change, or excessive aircraft engagement. Maintenance on the BAK-14 aircraft arresting system and coordination of aircraft arresting systems duties are also part of the role. The position requires training guardsmen in the operation and maintenance of aircraft arresting systems, maintaining records for documentation of preventive maintenance, repairs, and all aircraft engagements, and establishing and controlling benchstock, spare parts, and supplies. Additionally, the position involves installing, repairing, maintaining, and modifying electrical power production equipment, performing repair of components, conducting tests of equipment, maintaining and repairing electrical generating equipment, and performing inspection, maintenance, and major modifications. Troubleshooting repair situations and performing maintenance on electric power generating equipment are also required. The position requires advising on technical problems of installation and repair of electrical power production equipment, planning and scheduling work assignments, assuring compliance with published directives, work standards, and technical publications, operating standby units during power failures, and assisting electrician and power line personnel in installation, troubleshooting, and repair. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements include maintaining membership in the Kentucky National Guard, being assigned to a compatible military position, wearing the military uniform, and possibly undergoing a pre-employment physical. The position may require furlough actions, a trial period, and participation in direct deposit. It requires obtaining and maintaining a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation. Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus and Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Qualifications include experience demonstrating knowledge of mechanical maintenance work, experience using equipment and hand tools to troubleshoot, test, and repair equipment, and at least 18 months of experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience should provide working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems, and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics is required.
