The Role

Intern must be available to work full time (40 hours/week) during the 10-week program. Program dates: May 29 – August 7, 2026. Location: This position is fully remote/work from home in the continental US. US work authorization required for this role. Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate's commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

Lumen's Network Engineering organization is looking for a Network Engineer Intern to join our amazing team. Intern(s) will interact with Architecture, Planning, Operations, Lab, Systems to analyze, document, and work alongside Network Engineers implementing designs necessary for next generation 911 emergency services solutions including voice and text to 911.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Ability to research, document requirements, and define solutions deployed to ensure interoperability and validation of features, functions and behaviors in next generation 911 solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Voice Network Engineering team to create real time communications solutions or next generation 911 solutions including operational readiness and acceptance testing in both lab and real-world production environments.
  • Resolves difficult production/interoperability problems by working with cross functional teams and applying advanced engineering and network principles, theories and concepts.
  • Document technical processes and contribute to internal knowledge bases.
  • Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and troubleshooting sessions to enhance development workflows.
  • Self-motivated with problem solving capabilities, sense of urgency and accountability.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required qualifications:

  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
  • Graduating August 2026 – May 2028.
  • Preferred fields include but not limited to: Electrical Engineer, Computer Science, or Software Engineering related field.
  • Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 29 – August 7, 2026).

Proficiency and understanding of:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn. Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in agile environments.
  • Familiarity with basic telecommunications networking principles (preferred).
  • Applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve complex problems and issues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Enjoys collaboration and works well in fully remote team environment.
  • Comfortability interacting with different levels of leadership and presenting solutions.
  • Unafraid to ask questions to find solutions.
  • Thinks outside the box to challenge the norm.
  • Works to think of creative solutions to challenging problems.

Compensation

Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual's level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role. Hourly based pay range: Min: $31/hour Max: $46/hour.
