Director Of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center

The City of Henderson is looking to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Director in the City's Department of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center. Under general direction, provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the Department of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center, ensuring compliance in all construction in the City with federal, state, and local electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general building and fire codes as well as directing the activities of the Development Services Center; and performs related duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits

Competitive salary range of $133,920.11 - $204,198.39 annually; salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity. Base wage increase upon successful completion of initial probationary or qualifying period. Additional base wage increase and/or lump sum bonus contingent upon the City's financial performance and subject to available funding as determined by the City. Work-life balance includes a four (4)-day, 38 hour workweek (Monday to Thursday), paid leave and holidays, and a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time, regular non-represented employees including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts (FSA), long term disability (LTD), employee assistance program (EAP), retirement benefits, Nevada PERS, retirement health savings (RHS) account, deferred compensation plans, voluntary benefits, public service loan forgiveness program (PLSF) through the federal government, and tuition and certification reimbursement program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, public administration, construction administration, architecture, or a closely related field. Ten (10) years of full-time progressively responsible experience in residential and commercial inspection, plan review, engineering, architecture, construction, municipal or county land development, and/or permitting, five (5) years of which were at a managerial level. Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483. Must obtain and maintain certification as a building official from the International Code Council (ICC) within twelve (12) months from the date of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Must possess valid registration as one of the following: professional engineer (PE) in a related discipline or professional architect in a related discipline. Must be registered as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect in the state of Nevada within twelve (12) months from the date of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check. Must complete security awareness and national crime information center (NCIC)/Nevada criminal justice information system (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment. Desirable: master's degree in a closely related field.
