Job Position

The purpose of this position is to assist the Director in the operation of the department and plans and develops new procedures, formulates policy and prepares budgetary data. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Director and possesses signatory powers in such absence. This class works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Essential functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary:

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Assists the Director in coordinating programs, projects, and activities to achieve short- and long-range goals and objectives of the strategic plan.
  • Plans expenditures for budget preparation and Director's consideration.
  • Assists in determining departmental policies and planning long term programs.
  • Compiles reports and statistics and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Prepares memoranda and non-routine correspondence.
  • Plans, guides and directs the research, analysis and preparation of specialized or technical reports in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Conveys assignments to various organizational units.
  • Responds to complaints and inquiries from the public and resolves problems and concerns.
  • Represents the department to the public.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum education and experience requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Six (6) years of business or management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Other minimum requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Physical demands:

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
