Internship Opportunity

Kansas Gas Service is a division of ONE Gas, Inc., one of the largest publicly traded, 100 percent-regulated natural gas utilities in the United States. Our internship program is designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience for professional growth and development. We're seeking motivated and high-performing students to join our Engineering team for Summer 2026 in Wichita, KS or Overland Park, KS. This hybrid internship offers a dynamic blend of in-office and remote work, giving interns exposure to real-world engineering functions, processes, and field operations. Interns will work on impactful projects, collaborate with professionals across departments, and participate in networking events with peers and company leadership.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate, assist, and/or perform engineering activities relative to the design, operation, and maintenance of company pipeline and storage systems and related facilities.
  • Help with project coordination among area regions, departments (Customer Development, Operating, and Customer Services), and contractors including: Bid proposals and contracts Line extensions Construction and relocation projects
  • Provide technical and/or engineering assistance to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel, contractors, customers, and others on matters including but not limited to: Meter and regulator settings Equipment/system design Pipeline sizes Pipeline modeling Database analyses Growth planning Emergency valve isolation plans for pipeline systems Policies and procedures
  • Review, summarize, and assist in preparation of information including but not limited to: Engineering studies Pipeline bid proposals Construction contracts Status/activity reports Job orders Purchase requisitions

Position Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering, preferably graduating in December 2026 or May 2027.
  • Enrolled at the University of Kansas or Kansas State University.
  • Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Involved in extracurricular activities, community service, or leadership roles.
  • Experienced through prior internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work.

Recruitment Timeline

  • Compensation: All ONE Gas internship positions are paid. We offer a fair and competitive pay rate.
  • Housing Assistance: Based on the location of your assignment vs. your college and/or primary residence, you may be eligible to receive housing assistance.
